Good evenin’, to ya!

So, I haven’t gotten much crafty stuff done this weekend. I was extra lazy on Friday (my day off), now I’m working 12 hours a day Sat/Sun, then 8 on Monday, so I don’t think I’ll be getting much done at all. I went and got some awesome books from the Library that I’ll have to tell you about on Tuesday. I’ve also gotten a little bit more done on my embroidery, and I finished The Plains of Passage by Jean Auel (very good). I’ll give more details when I can but for now, I’m going to sleep. G’night, I hope you had a wonderful weekend.

Not feeling well today (05-26-2009)

Filed under: Health, Embroidery, crafts — Holly @ 00:12

I’ve had a rough day today, I’m having some stomach problems, which has lead to headache/dizziness/blood sugar issues. I’m going to bed now and hopefully I’ll wake up feeling better tomorrow. I did a little embroidery today but not as much as I’d like, the flower petals are kicking my booty - I can’t seem to get them to look how I want but instead of ripping out and redoing (for lack of thread) I’m going to leave it and just chuck it up to a learning experience. I also looked at a lot of stitching sites today, I downloaded many pictures from all these sites. Artecy is the only one that is actually a paid for site, I paid for my membership years ago and I don’t regret it a bit. I wait every couple weeks for her patterns.

Crocheted Bun Cover

I made a bun cover at work tonight but it’s too narrow and long. I have to make it wider at the center and fewer rows. Here’s where I found the pattern and here’s some pics.

Local yarn and needlepoint store adventures!

Goodies

My Mom and I went on an adventure today to the local craft shops (all two of them) and I got some goodies! I bought a square crochet hook (size C for me and G for Mom), two booklets and some embroidery thread. Mom bought me a cross stitch booklet Country Winds because they’ll fit great in my kitchen and I bought a crochet sock book because I’ve never crocheted socks and the hook to go with the book. I’m really excited about the crochet hook, I think it’ll be great! :D

My day off

Filed under: Embroidery, Wedding — Holly @ 21:58

So, today was my day off, then back to work for two days, then another day off, but Sly’s not off on Friday so we have to get all of our errands done today. We went to Wal-Mart today… twice (forgot rabbit food the first time, went back the second time and they didn’t have it anyway. :|) Did laundry, including washing our bed sheets and bleaching the towels (thrilling, I know). But in other news we looked at some wedding invitation/favor stuff and priced some stuff, I really need to get planning.

I went and bought an embroidery kit from Michael’s, it’s a Learn a Craft kit from Dimensions. It’s pretty cool, but I’m not too good at it. Practice makes perfect, right? It seems like it will be very easy to carry around and work on in Doc’s offices or work (which happens to be a doc’s office…).

I also formatted my computer and reinstalled Windows Vista, I had Windows 7 installed but it’s still a little too buggy for me. It never really crashed but the desktop would load wrong and I’d have to shut it all down and load it back up. It had some other issues, really none of them were major, but all together it was just getting on my nerves too much. I’m sure it will be a great when it’s released but I’m not enthusiastic enough to work through the bugs.

Anyway, it’s about time I went and got the sheets outa the dryer and got to bed.

Stash busting

Filed under: Craftster, Cross Stitch, crafts, Crafting, Crochet, Knitting — Holly @ 21:51

So, I’m doing my best to not buy any new supplies - but instead using up the yarn I already have. I’m trying to do this for sewing and beading and well, everything else too. I’ve decided that I want to learn to Embroider (obviously) and I’m trying to use supplies I already have but I need to find some material to embroider on so if you have any suggestions, please let me know! I’m also trying to finish up old projects, I’ve been working on the Monks Satchel at work

Monks Satchel

and my Unicorn cross stitch pattern at home.

I’m thinking about making some of these to carry around my projects - instead of plastic zipper bags. This will be a good stash buster project, I think, since I have a TON of WW yarn and I think I’d line them with some of the cotton material I have. The pattern is from the blog Delicious Stitches and I found it on Craftster.org. Thanks for offering the pattern for free, DS!

I finished this tonight while zoning out on some TV (yay for WWE Smackdown, hehe). I really liked the square and the design, it was easy once you got past the first row - simple pattern repeats. I used the hook that was called for, not thinking about the fact that my squares always come out smaller then the pattern, so when I finished this one it was only 9.5 inches - I added another row of brown, join at corner, sc, ch 2, sc, sc in next stitch, sk 2, sc in next st around, then another row of blue, join at corner, ch 5, dc in same st, 2 dc in ch2 sp ’til next corner, 2 dc, ch2, 2dc in corner sp, repeat around.(if you have any questions please let me know, it’s late so I have no idea if these will make sense.)

Interesting in Embroidery

Filed under: Year Long Blanket '09, Embroidery, Crochet — Holly @ 21:39

So, I want to learn embroidery. I know how to cross stitch and I’ve flirted with embroidery before but I’d really like to learn. I’m not sure what I’ll actually use it for, but it seems like a good thing to know. I’ve been looking all over at different sites and what not and I found this really awesome site with some tutorial videos. The blog Feeling Stitchy posts some awesome stuff too - she updates nearly every day!

Here’s my May square from Craftster too -

Inga’s huge bag

Filed under: crafts, Crafting, Crochet — Holly @ 22:22

I made this bag, thinking it’d be cute to carry - I made it using Red Heart Peruvian Print and THIS pattern (it’s a pdf format). Some how my version came out huge… It’s not really what I wanted, and definitely not something I can carry, but it will make a good project back for at home. I’m going to line it with cotton (so it doesn’t stretch) with lots of little pockets. Here’s some pictures to show how large this thing is.
