Keeping busy - Couple things I’ve done.

Filed under: soap making, candle making, crafts, Knitting — Holly @ 17:32

My brother and I made some candles and soap the past couple days. It’s kept me pretty sane, thankfully. I started another NIN hat, I tried to knit it in the round but I couldn’t figure out the two colors while knitting in the round, so I just gave up and I’m working it flat. :p I also started another pair of toddler socks for Sly’s sister, I need to get pics of the ones I’ve made and these. I haven’t cast on for my sweater yet, but I’m carrying the yarn around with me, so maybe I’ll do that tonight. Anyway, here’s a couple pics of the candles and soap, and I’m off to the movies! We’re going to see American Gangster, hope it good!

The white ones smell like coconut, the red one smells like rose/honey suckle and the yellow is ginger and lemon (it’s surprisingly nice, and not just because I made it. ;)

I ground up some dove soap and made oatmeal soap, I found a place online that talked about it but I can’t find the link right now so I’ll post it later. It’s very nice but I’ll have to grind it up finer next time, it’s a bit sharp when you’re washing with it. Good for feet or back scrubbing, ifin you ask me.

Goodbye Ophelia

No good news about yesterdays veterinary visit. Ophie was in total liver failure and her abdomin was filling with fluid because her liver wasn’t breaking down the protein so it was actually escaping through her veins. I might be a little off on that but that’s what I understand. Anyway, it was getting difficult for her to breathe and she was getting weaker and weaker and not gaining any weight back. I love her and I’m glad she’s not suffering anymore. Keep her in your prayers, along with Caroline and Tallon, they’re all my babies and I will never forget them.

Interweave Knits - Fall ‘07

I found a copy!!! Yay!!! I’ve been hunting all over for this magazine and I found one at Michaels today. I even had my Dad hunting in Pittsburg, PA, but the hunt is over now. I was going to buy one off ebay but they’re going for $20.00+, I can’t do that. So, now I have to find yarn and start this sweater. I’m going to knit it with the lovely people on Craftster - The knit-a-long is HERE. I’ll post later when I figure out what yarn I’m going to use and all.

Ophelia update and NIN hat

Ophie is home now, we’re going to do some home care over the weekend and see how it goes. I got the impression that if she wasn’t a lot better by Monday they would give us the “euthanasia” talk. She’s on fluids with potassium, two antibiotics, and force feedings every four hours. She’s very weak, but she’s drinking a good bit of water it seems like, she went right for the bowl when I let her out of the cage and then right to the faucet in the bathroom (one of her favorite places to drink, they like to play in the water too.)
Here’s a pic of my poor baby, doesn’t she look sick?

I finished Michaels NIN hat while I was waiting on the Vet to call today. I’m not sure if I’ll give him this one or make another one, I’m not very pleased with it. I guess it’s ok for the first time doing any kind of multi-color work, but it’s not very stretch and it’s a bit big on my head (and I’m pretty sure we’re about the same size). I want to try the pattern in the round too, so I think I’ll start another one tonight. I’ll be at home with Ophie a lot, at least over the weekend, if not longer. Here’s a pic or two.

Oh, in all the excitement (haha, please note the sarcasm) of Thanksgiving and Ophie being sick, I forgot to mention I got in a car wreck! Someone hit us in S’ville, no one was hurt, nothing major, just one more thing on the list of shit that shouldn’t happen. Here’s a pic of my car and his. It’s kind of funny, his car was much worse then mine. That’s what he gets for hitting me, I say!

Belated Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope everyone had a wonderful day! I know I did, despite not shopping until yesterday morning (hopefully I’ll never be doing that again. I never knew so many people went shopping on Thanksgiving day.), it was quite interesting to thaw two turkeys and cook them in 8 hours but we did it!

Our cat, Ophelia, has been sick at the vets since Tuesday and she’s not getting much better. They’re not sure if she has fatty liver, cancer, some other sort of infection. They can’t tell us whether there’s a good outlook or bad. The bill is well over $400 and they want to do exploratory surgery, which might not do any good at all. Another option is bringing her home and try to do care here, but there’s no telling if she’ll only get worse or better. It looks like the best option is to bring her home and see how she does. I’m hoping and praying it doesn’t come to putting her down. I have no issues force feeding her twice a day and giving her fluids, but I don’t want her to live like that if she’s in pain. But enough of my rambling for now, I need to go get ready to pick her up.

M.A.C.E.

Filed under: Family, Knitting — Holly @ 01:05

I’m in North Carolina right now waiting on a geek convention (M.A.C.E.) to start and I have little to NO knitting with me. I feel so lost, I have a pair of toddler socks to knit for Sly’s sister, and I’m done with one of them already. I’m dragging out finishing the other one just so I have something to do, hehe

I’m looking to get the Fall ‘07 issue of Interweave Knits, if anyone has an extra copy I will love you forever and ever (I’m more then willing to pay for it, I just can’t seem to find it.) ! I went to BAM, B&N, two Wal-Mart’s and I can’t find it, it sucks. I missed the new issue coming out by one day. :( I want to get it to make THIS sweater with these other lovely people on Craftster.org.

Anyhoo, it’s 1 in the AM and I need to sleep. I’ve never been to a con before, so I’m kind of excited. We don’t have much planned out already but we do have a tournament on Saturday for L5R. I hope everyone has a great weekend!

P.S. I’m going to be taking tons of pictures, but I forgot my cord at home (I suck at this whole packing thing) so they won’t be up until at least Sunday.
